Chat Editing and Branching
Edit any message in your chat and switch between versions with the branch picker. Fix errors, add details, or refine output without starting over.
You pasted your chart into the MDM Assistant but forgot to include the troponin result. Or the AI generated a great MDM, but you want to tweak the risk stratification language before pasting it into your EMR. You don't need to start over. Just edit the message and update.
palmER AI Suite lets you edit any message in your chat — both your own messages and the AI's responses — and automatically keeps track of every version so you can switch between them.
Editing Your Messages
When you notice a typo, want to add missing clinical data, or want to rephrase your input entirely, you can edit any message you've sent.
Hover over your message
Move your cursor over the message you want to edit. Action icons appear below the message bubble.
Click the pencil icon
Click the pencil icon to enter edit mode. Your message text becomes editable in an inline text area.
Make your changes
Modify the text as needed. Add the missing troponin value, fix a typo, or completely rewrite the input.
Click Update
Click the Update button to submit your edited message. The AI will regenerate its response based on your updated input. Click Cancel to discard your changes and keep the original.
Common reasons to edit your message:
- Add a lab result that came back after you generated the initial note
- Fix a typo or incorrect value (e.g., wrong age, wrong side)
- Add clinical details you forgot to include (medications, allergies, past medical history)
- Rephrase your input for a better response
Editing AI Responses
You can also edit the AI's output directly. This is useful when the generated documentation is almost perfect but needs minor adjustments before you paste it into your EMR.
Hover over the AI response
Move your cursor over the AI's response. Action icons appear below the message.
Click the pencil icon
Click the pencil icon to enter edit mode. The response text becomes editable inline.
Make your corrections
Adjust the wording, fix a clinical detail, remove a section, or add your own clinical reasoning.
Click Update
Click Update to save the edited version. The original response is preserved as a separate branch — you can always go back to it.
Your Clinical Judgment Comes First
The AI generates documentation to save you time — but you're the clinician - and AI can't replace you. The edit feature makes it easy to produce a final note that's accurate, defensible, and truly reflects your medical decision-making.
Branch Navigation
Every time you edit a message and click Update, palmER AI Suite creates a new branch — a separate version of the conversation from that point forward. You can switch between branches to compare different versions.
How Branches Work
When a message has multiple versions (branches), a branch picker appears below it:
← 1 / 3 →
- The left arrow navigates to the previous version
- The right arrow navigates to the next version
- The counter shows which version you're viewing and how many exist
The branch picker is hidden when a message has only one version. It automatically appears once you create an edit.
What Branching Lets You Do
- Compare different inputs. Edit your message two different ways and compare the AI's responses to each. For example, try the case with and without a specific lab result to see how it affects the differential.
- Explore alternative approaches. Rephrase your prompt to get a different style of output, then flip between versions to pick the one you prefer.
- Never lose work. Every version is preserved. Editing doesn't delete the original — it creates a new branch alongside it. You can always navigate back.
Nothing Is Lost
Edits never delete previous versions. The original message and all prior edits remain accessible through the branch picker. Experiment freely — you can always go back.
Snippets
Save phrases you type every shift and insert them with one click. Snippets eliminate repetitive typing for attestations, templates, follow-up instructions, and more.
