palmER Colab

A contextual sidebar assistant that knows what you're working on and answers clinical questions without leaving your current chart. Always available, always in context.

You're halfway through a chart and need to know whether this patient's cardiac history warrants a cardiology consult. Or you need discharge instructions for the patient that's waited hours for CT. Normally, you'd switch apps, lose context, and waste precious minutes.

palmER Colab is the sidebar assistant on every page of palmER AI Suite. It already knows what you're working on, so you ask, you get an answer, and you keep charting.

What is palmER Colab?

Colab is a slide-out chat panel that lives next to your notes. Think of it as a second AI assistant that knows the conversation from your main chat window automatically. Colab sees the same chart information you do (the patient's presentation, workup, and your documentation), so it can answer questions without you re-explaining the case.

This means you don't need to copy-paste your chart into Colab. It already knows. Just ask your question.

  • Always available. Open it from the button in the top-right corner of any screen.
  • Context-aware. It already knows the case, so you don't have to set it up.
  • Independent. Colab has its own chat thread, so it won't interfere with your main documentation.

How to Use palmER Colab

Open palmER Colab

Click the button in the top-right corner of any screen. The Colab panel slides in from the right.

Ask your question

Colab already has context from your main chat window. Ask naturally.

For example, if you just generated an HPI, you can ask: What imaging should I order for this patient?

Get your answer and keep working

Colab responds in its own panel. Your main chat remains untouched. Review the answer, then continue documenting in the main window.

Opening and Closing

  • Open. Click in the top-right corner.
  • Close. Click again.

Reopening it brings back your previous Colab conversation.

Context Sharing

This is what makes palmER Colab powerful. When you ask a question, it already knows everything about the current case. No copy-paste, no re-explaining.

In practice:

You paste a chart into the MDM Assistant and generate an MDM. You open Colab and ask, What follow-up should this patient have? The answer comes back specific to your case, not a generic discharge template.

In the Patients workflow

When you have a patient selected, the context goes further. Every question you ask Colab is answered with that patient's chart already loaded.

Clinical Reference Built In

palmEM AI's extensive emergency medicine knowledge base is built into Colab. The same reference that powers palmEM AI Reference is available right in the sidebar, with your case context already loaded.

That means a single Colab thread can move from "what's my next move for this patient" to "verify the HEART score" to "draft these discharge instructions" without you switching tools.

Ask Colab the questions you'd normally pull up a reference app for:

  • What's the heparin dose?
  • Calculate the HEART score
  • RSI medication doses?
  • How should I manage this rhythm?
  • Does this patient need an LP?
  • Discharge instructions

The difference from opening palmEM AI Reference on its own: Colab already knows the patient. You don't have to spell out the clinical scenario. Just ask.

Clinical Use Cases

Pro Tips

  • Ask naturally. Colab knows the case. You don't need to re-state the chief complaint or history. It has them already.
  • Use it for quick side questions. Colab is built for the rapid-fire questions that come up while you chart.
  • Colab works with every assistant. HPI, Physical Exam, MDM, ConsultER, Chart CheckER, palmEM AI Reference. It's always one click away.

Think of Colab as Your Colleague

palmER Colab is the experienced colleague sitting next to you during your shift. You're charting, a question comes up, you lean over and ask. They already know the case because they've been listening the whole time. That's Colab.
